Mō MetService – About MetService

MetService keeps people informed, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with a global reputation for connecting our science and technology to help our customers and Aotearoa New Zealand navigate the impacts of increasingly severe weather.  Our changing climate is increasing impacts from weather, and this changes the way communities need to receive their weather information. 

Our digital products span web-based decision support tools, advanced television media graphics, as well as data and integration platforms used by recognised brands in New Zealand and Internationally. 

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

You will be responsible for the people leadership, design, standards, development, integration, and ongoing operation of the MetService’s Insights Platform.

This role plays a key interface between product and development teams and requires sound decision making in prioritisation of product demands and engineering lifecycle management to ensure we have a sustainable technical platform.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing strong people and technical leadership for technology usages and deployment methodologies (i.e you will also need to be part of the team developing solutions)
• Aligning front-end tools, technology stacks, applications development to a common blueprint.
• Leading both front and back-end modernisation, and rationalisation efforts at MetService.

• Have prior experience leading a team of developers and providing technical leadership
• You have a strong sense of teamwork, who can mentor and drive people’s personal growth and development, benefiting both the team and the individual.
• Have a self-disciplined approach, look for improvement opportunities, and an analytical approach to problem-solving.
• You are an excellent communicator.
• Proven experience developing APIs in a commercial environment
• Have proven expertise with the following technologies in a commercial environment:
  AWS Lambda, API Gateway, AWS ECS and writing Terraform scripts
• Fluent in Java and Python
• Working knowledge of DevOps, and setting up and configuring CI/CD
• Can translate business requirements into technical deliverables equally explain complex technical issues or requirements in business or lay terms.
• Have experience / or familiar with establishing development best practices.
